São Miguel Island
Located at 25º 30' W and 37º 50' N, S. Miguel is the biggest Island of the Archipelago, known as the green Island due to the permanent green fields and woods that cover it.
Vila Franca do Campo
On the south coast of the Island, Vila Franca do Campo was the first capital of S. Miguel and is nowadays one of the main touristic centers of the Azores, by the sea - for diving, whale watching or big game fishing - and close to a superb golf course (Achada das Furnas) and the mountains, where some well marked walking tracks offer unforgettable sight-seeing.
